Canadian Made Gift for Him

Okay, we know, our timing is horrible when it comes to posting, but better late than never, right? Yesterday, we put out an Instagram story saying we’d share any of your Father’s Day gift ideas to our story, all you had to do was tag us. We're back with another maker feature. These are so much fun and we love sharing the fun details of handmade Canadian companies. This month, we're introducing you to Andrea and her business - North of Esme. Such a fun interview, we're glad she decided to do one with us. We won't spill on what exactly she makes, you'll have to read on to find out for yourself. But, we do love how unique her company is and that she is saving items from making it to the landfill. Let's not wait any longer, here's the full interview.

What is your name and company?
Andrea - North of Esme

Where are you from?
Qualicum Beach, BC

What do you make?
Dresses

Where can we find you and start shopping?
Instagram: @northofesme
Shop: DM through Instagram

Does your company contribute back to the environment?
We use repurposed fabrics and laces.

The business side of the interview...

Tell us more about your company - what's your business' story or something unique that we'd love to hear?

North of Esme was created from my love of dressing up and feeling glamorous combined with my passion for seeking out unique and beautiful fabrics that may otherwise end up in the landfill. I aim to make affordable dresses that fit a wide range of women. Sometimes putting on a dress and getting a little dolled up can do a world of wonders for your mood. Being home on maternity leave, with my second babe has somehow provided me with more inspiration to follow my heart and passion and create some beautiful garments for you to wear.

How did you get started selling? What made you finally take the leap?

I am actually just getting started with dress rentals and sales. With all that is going on in the world right now, I had initially decided to push back launching anything, but I noticed that people are still living and documenting the beauty of life and wanted to make my dresses available for this.

Are you a full time or part time maker? Either scenario, tell us what a day in business looks like for you?

I am a part time maker. I’m currently on maternity leave and have a two year old and a 7 month old. When I’m not on leave I work as a registered nurse, but the goal is to go back part time and keep making dresses part time.

Finding moments here and there, in between naps and at bedtime is when I get my sewing in! There is no typical day, being a maker with young children at home is unpredictable and I’m working really hard to find some balance in that.

What does your dream storefront look like? Is it online or brick and mortar, do you work all week long, do you have employees, etc?

I would love to have a little studio store front on our property. Lots of windows and great light, somewhere close to the garden. People could come and try on dresses and even take photos in the garden if they wanted! I would work around the children’s schedules and take appointments for try ons.

Now the fun personal side...

What is your favorite colour? Why?

I’d have to say my favourite color is orange. There are so many different hues. It’s bright and cheerful and complex.

If you could only choose one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

I am such a foodie. Choosing just one food is really tough. One meal I could live off though is Buddha bowls. So much variety.

Would you rather spend your vacation at the beach or sight-seeing?

I’m kind of a busy body, so my dream vacation definitely involves sightseeing.

Are you a book or movie person? Recommendations for the one you chose?

I’m definitely a movie person. I love we bought a zoo and no water for elephants. A couple of my faves.

Salty or sweet? What is your favorite of the one you chose?

Salty and savoury. Bread with baked cheese or potato chips!

How fun is this little handmade business that Andrea has? We absolutely adore her stunning dresses. The concept of having a little shop on her yard and, not only selling but, renting out these beautiful dresses, is amazing. You have a beautiful business started and we hope all of your dreams come true. Thank you again Andrea for sharing just a small piece inside of North of Esme. Once again, if you want to see more stunning dresses or get in touch with Andrea, here's where you can reach her:

It's feeling like mid July around here and we thought it would be fun to put together a little printable just for summer. We may just have to do a few of these over the next couple of months, as summer time prints are way too fun. We love how bright and cheery they can make your space feel, and this hello sunshine lemon print is no exception. We put this together quickly with lemonade and sunshine in mind.

Free printable hello sunshine lemons print

If you're new around here, we've been trying to offer one free print a month. It's a fun little item that we think will be fun for you to add to your home, office, workspace, wherever you find suitable. If you have any ideas for us to put together, just let us know. We'd love to hear and see what we can do.

How cute are these lemons in the kitchen. So much fun... we love how quick prints can change up a space and for very little money. You can literally print at home, or send to your local printer or Staples and get it printed in larger formats or on heavier stock paper. Either way, slap a quick frame on it and hang or lean it on a wall in your favourite space.

Alright time to get some sunny lemons of your own, click here to download.

Like always - if you use it, let us know. We really love seeing that you enjoy these free prints and put them to good use. Plus we love decor as much as we love handmade items. You can tag us in your images on social media or leave a comment below telling us all about your new prints home. Oh, and be sure to share the fun with your friends, they'll love you for it. Now off to enjoy some of that sunshine, record breaking temperatures and an ice cold glass of lemonade.

We had a beautiful weekend and it got us thinking about Summer being just around the corner. We can't wait - despite a different pace and scenery, it's just nice to finally have some warm weather and to be able to get outside and enjoy it. We thought it would be fun to gather a few DIYs for Summer that are fun for around the home and enjoying the weather that is quickly coming for us. So we took to Pinterest and have gathered seven do it yourself ideas that we think would be fun to try and make hanging out around the home, even more fun this summer.

Summer Watermelon Mason Jar Drinking Glass + Party Ideas | Kara's Party Ideas

Ahh... so cute. These watermelon mason jar drinking glass are the cutest and fun for the whole summer. Kara's Party Ideas nailed it, along with a whole fun summer watermelon themed party, with the cutest decorations. Even though large parties may be cancelled, this is too cute not to share and try, just for something fun to do at home on the weekend with family.

Garden Hose Wreath | Redhead Can Decorate

How fun is this? With a garden hose and a few simple items from the dollar store, this fun project will make your front door super adorable without breaking the bank. We just love how simple yet summery it is, plus pretty easy to put together. The yellow and green accents are fun, but this would definitely work with something different... which colours would you choose?

DIY Macrame Hanging Planter | Brit + Co

Isolation has us spending extra love and attention on the house plants, that dressing them up with a cute macrame hanging planter sounds like the perfect idea. How cute are these? We just love the colours and the simple tutorial. An easy addition to any room or outdoor space that would be summer fun for the summer.

Painted Watercolor Pillow | TIDBITS

These pillows are all the fun that summer should be. Just look at the different pops of colours and how fun and cheery they look. We can see these hanging out on a cute white accent chair, on an outdoor macrame hammock or even a fun kids space. A cute idea to create a quick summer look.

Watermelons always remind us of summer, and this cute tray is no exception. How fun would this be indoor or out? So easy to make and absolutely the perfect piece of decor for many spaces around the home. If you give this one a try, we'd love to see it. So much fun and would go great with the watermelon drinking jars we mentioned earlier.
